"Surviving Coronavirus - New Jersey to Virginia"

How These Two Best Friends Are Making Do

April 26, 2020

The biggest thing that has taken place during 2020? You guessed it, the spread of COVID- 19; now a worldwide pandemic. It seems like everywhere you turn you hear many of the same things from all around the world: When is this going to end? How do we deal with this? What are we supposed to do? Things are crazy, for everyone.

Almost every college in the United States cancelled the rest of their second semesters, sending students from every part of the world home for... who knows how long?

News of this magnitude for people who were not expecting it, like college students, can hit hard. Take it from Piper Sirois and Ava Wentworth, two friends who attend High Point University, upset that their semester was cut short.

Going from seeing each other almost everyday, to only communicating through FaceTimes once a week, it can be hard to adjust. The magnitude of a pandemic like this, seeming foreign to most, is having a huge impact on families everywhere.

Piper and Ava both have fathers who are considered 'essential workers,' so no matter what is going on with their families at home, their fathers need to go to work everyday. Each state varies with what is deemed an essential worker and how their daily routines per company has changed, but both Mr. Sirois and Mr. Wentworth have had to change their routines completely.

Both Virginia and New Jersey are on stay at home orders until further notice. So far, it has been almost two months. With tensions flying high, nowhere to go, nothing to do, and no one to see, it feels like the ban has been in place for a year.

Although missing each other is hard for the girls, they know that once school starts back up in August, it will be one of the best semesters they both will have, making up for lost time is better than having no time at all.
